Logo Design Brief
We are looking to create a brand logo to promote Monmouth, IL retailers (we're a small, historic rural town). This logo will be used on a website banner and will be part of print and billboard advertising.
We want the logo to utilize both our City logo and a stylized version of an architectural element that is part of a historic landmark on our town square.
Here are some links to related sites, so you can get a sense of the graphical look and feel we've got on existing sites:

Here is a biz website from one of our anchor businesses:

We are in the middle of a large-scale renovation of our downtown historic district. Our goal is to create a unique shopping, dining and cultural experience on our historic public square. This logo will be the "face" of those efforts - both to recruit vistors to our downtown and to help recruit new retail entrepreneurs.
We want to convey history, identity and class (without stuffiness)... to create a brand image that compels deeper exploration.

Requirements
Must have
- Incorporate elements (or all) of our current city logo.
Incorporate architectural element (stonework above window) from historic building.
Must create a recognizable and iconographic brand feel.
Should not have
- Should not look too much like the placeholder design I uploaded... that's so you can see the architectural element we want to use as well as the city logo in context.
