Illustration Design Brief

We would like to find an illustrator who can draw 2 sample images for a 15 image project (this would be a follow-on contract) that would be used in a print and digital book called "The Blueberry Man."

We would like three illustrations based on the following lyrics:

1st image/Cover:
Deep in the woods
Where the blueberries grow
There lives an old man
That nobody knows

2nd Image:
And out in the country
There's a family of five
Eating pancakes for breakfast
With his blueberries inside

Design guidance:
We want the design to feel organic and nature-like with a simple feel. Thick lines, perhaps even a wood-cut feel. Circles come to mind as blueberries are round, as are the faces of the people mentioned in the song. Colors possibly include blue, white, grey.

Requirements

Must have

• Simple feel, enhancing the text from the story. Not just what the words are saying, but some added dimension that the images carry.

Nice to have

• It should feel natural. The sample lyrics are also the start of the book, so it would be good to get a sense of the entry into the story.

Should not have

• Not an overly colorful book. Not a Disney look. Not cartoon characters. Not corporate.
