Hi - I'm an American cake and cupcake designer living in Beijing China for a few years with my family. At the encouragement of many friends, I'm launching a new business designing and creating custom cakes and cupcakes for the Expat community here in Beijing. My business is called Frosting Artistry. The name intends to show that while my cakes are delicious, it's the creativity and art of my custom designs that really sets them apart. Product line is primarily cakes and cupcakes, but also includes other treats such as cake pops, brownie bites, marshmallow treats, and chocolates, all beautifully decorated. I do anything from baby shower cakes to firetruck cakes, Superhero cakes, Barbie cakes, tiered wedding cakes with gorgeous frosting flowers, etc, so I'm having a hard time deciding whether to lean toward a contemporary logo or a more elegant one.
Updates
Hi Everyone! Some great designs are coming in and this is very exciting for me. I am reviewing them as they coming in and starting by "eliminating" the ones that I don't care for - so if you haven't heard from me, that is good news! I haven't found one that strikes me as perfect and we have a couple more days to go, but there are definitely some that could work with a bit of revision. Please let me share with you three things I have learned or decided from viewing the great work that has come in: 1. No need to use a cherry. To me a cherry is on the top of a bowl of ice cream, not on a cupcake. 2. Regarding font - a lot of cake decorating work is "piping" with frosting, especially for me because I emphasize the artistic aspect of my cakes. To me an attractive font is one that I would be able to pipe. There are some great fonts coming in but the chunkier ones would need to be changed in a final revision. 3. Many of the designs coming in feature a cupcake. While I make cupcakes by the hundreds, and that tends to sustain the business, what I really love doing is making cakes, again, because they are more artistic rather than just a beautiful swirl that tops a cupcake. I wonder if there is a way to design a three tiered cake with a bit of swirl/flower/design, with the top tier being a cupcake - then this would show both products. My concern is that the design would come out too intricate and I think medium-to-simple works better for a logo, so I think that is a challenge...? PLEASE KNOW that if you have already submitted a design with chunky lettering, and a cupcake with a cherry on top, that doesn't mean I don't like it. There are several "concepts" of design that I do like and I think could work with minimal revision, but hopefully this information will be helpful. THANK YOU ALL - this is really a cool process and I am actually touched that there are a bunch of people whom I haven't met that are working on something that is so important to me :-) And by the way, yes, I will need business cards and a brochure type thing, and a print ad as well but wanted just to start with the logo. Thanks -Karen
