eBook Cover Design Brief
Greetings, artists,
***Update*** A design has come in that I really like - I will probably pick this design. If artists would like to submit potential designs before the end of the contest (Friday), I am VERY happy to consider them, but, respecting your time, I thought you should know where the situation stands. :)
The name of the eBook story: The Curse of the Ninth Symphony
Name of the writer: Alexander Pilot
Blurb: "New York City, 1910. The great composer Gustav Mahler is fleeing a curse that killed Beethoven, Schubert, Dvorak, and a score of other great composers before him, the Curse of the Ninth Symphony. Each of these men died upon completing their ninths, and Mahler is convinced that he will perish now that he’s completed his. A mysterious gentleman in black is stalking the composer. His marriage to his beautiful wife Alma, twenty years his junior, appears to be disintegrating before his very eyes. Is the composer’s desperate terror a delusion, or are the Heavens aligned against the writing of another symphony?"
The feeling that I am seeking from the cover is of something ominous, something unnerving, disturbing, something off. I would like it to evoke some mystery or dread.
I leave the cover up to the imagination of the artist but here are two images that I think hold strong potential:
A) The image of a blue eye in darkness. I have attached an excellent creative commons image that I think may work for this purpose. I wonder if it could be edited to add a burst of amber around the pupil to reflect this description,""...There was something strange about his eyes. They were blue, with a burst of amber around the irises. His gaze pierced Gustav the way a needle pierces cotton."
or
B) the image of the Angel Of Waters statue on top of the Bethesda Fountain (zoomed in on the statue), Central Park. I have attached a creative commons image that may be helpful or other images could be better.
or
C) A combination of the two
The story takes place in 1910, and the cover should have a historic feel. I would like it to be striking and eye-catching, inducing the reader to want to check it out.
Really excited to see your work! If you have any questions, hit me up at alexeisoma@gmail.com, or call at 609-357-8053.
Thank you in advance for your hard work,
Alex
PS Please see Must Haves for technical requirements
PPS I have uploaded the story as a document, if you want to check it out.
