Designers,

We would like you to ignore the current beach/tropical background on our splash page at:

Our backgrounds and even the design of the site is subject to change.  So it would be nice to see designs set against black, white, soft gray gradient, and/or light blue.


We would like to build a luxury, upscale brand, that is trendy and stylish with today's generation.  So if we were talking fashion, it would be Diesel versus Louis Vuitton.  California style versus New York, if that makes sense.

The font can be script, hand, or serif.  Although the name is tropical, we are NOT looking to emphasize this further with palms or other highly recognizable tropical elements. 

Graphical elements/abstract - this is what we are most interested for this design contest.  The typeface is important, but creating a unique, colorful, and shaded abstract is what we're looking for.  Colors we generally like are:

But feel free to experiment with various colors/shadings.  We like to see colors blend when elements overlap.  So subtle gradients, slightly 3d... but still classy.  If we are considering using leaf elements, then they should be abstracted into something unique and recognizable, as opposed to being very obvious.

I know graphic design takes longer so we added $100 to the budget and made it a guaranteed payment.  We also extended the deadline 2 days.

Project Deadline Extended
Reason: Thanks for all the entries thus far. We are moving away from the beach feel with flowers/leaves in the design. An abstract logo is what we are looking for at this point.

Ladies/Gents,

Thank you so much for your submissions.  We are beginning to gain traction with investors and the media.  We were @PitchEvent in San Francisco at AT&T Park (Giants Stadium) on the bay yesterday, and we will be at Venture Shift, a Vator.tv event at the end of this month.  Our logo will be featured at this upcoming event all over the place.  This has the possibility of creating a huge splash in the coming weeks/months.

We have a design we are moving forward with.  But we do not have an abstract logo to go with it.  So please focus your efforts on an abstract logo.  Refer to our redesign of our splash page (in-progress):

Notice the bold red/white logo box.  The font used for TropicMint is called Luna Bar.  We are going down the Virgin/Diesel path with this color choice.  The reason is this:  we want to play against the name with red.  The name automatically conjures up images of a Caribbean paradise feeling.  What the bold color choice does is create surprise.  It gives the feeling that, "you think you know what TropicMint is, but you don't."  It's more than palm trees, pools, margaritas, flowers, and beaches.  It's a lifestyle that is fun that values creative and artistic expression.  This extends the initial concept into something that can be embraced by everyone.

Project Deadline Extended
Reason: We are keeping our current logo that is featured on our web page in the red box: http://tropicmint.com We are looking for a high-quality abstract that can be added to this OR stand-alone the way twitter has their logo-type and their little bird on the side. So far we're not seeing what we're looking for with the current submissions. Please let us know if you have further questions.
