Logo Design Brief

We are searching for a brand-defining logo design for a new clothing and accessories company targeting a niche American market. The design must incorporate the confederate (i.e., rebel) flag or, better still, the essence or constituent elements of the flag. The superior design, in other words, will capture the spirit and component parts of the flag, without simply reproducing the flag in its traditional form. While the rebel flag is a sometimes misunderstood symbol, for many it is a cherished expression and celebration of southern pride, heritage, and culture, and this is the perspective the successful designer will bring to this project. The design should have clean lines and be simple and uncomplicated and not at all cluttered. It should be unique, memorable, and instantly recognizable. The design should be rendered in a single, solid color, and in only one dimension. It should work well in a full palette of colors. The logo should incorporate both a pictorial and a textual element, and the pictorial element should be easily severable from the text and stand just as well on its own, without the text, while still capturing the core image of the brand. The pictorial element of the design should reproduce nicely at all sizes--it should be at home embroidered at less than an inch by an inch on a polo shirt, at three-by-three on a baseball cap, or blown up big on a t-shirt.
