Logo Design Brief
We are an international scientific consortium that needs a logo for our proposal of an EU Project under the call SC1-PM-14-2016 (https://ec.europa.eu/research/participants/portal/desktop/en/opportunities/h2020/topics/2433-sc1-pm-14-2016.html). The call is on the topic of an "EU-Japan cooperation on Novel ICT Robotics based solutions for active and healthy ageing at home or in care facilities".
Our approach will use social robotics to reduce social exclusion of elderly people. The robot will be an intelligent companion that stimulates the user to communicate with it, with friends and acquaintances, and with caregivers. The robot will be integrated with an intelligent living platform (providing sensors, etc. for the robot) that will help it to understand user behavior. Finally, there will be a virtual reality component focusing on enabling elderly people (who are less mobile) to (re-)visit well-known favorite outdoor places that are linked to their personal history, where they could communicate with others (think of a Virtual Reality type of Skype), and where they would feel comfortable and full of memories. The robot helps them to reach these places from their past, both through conversation, and with the help of virtual reality systems set up in Japan.
This is a cooperative project between the EU and Japan, so a subtle way of integrating this aspect into the logo might be useful but is not required.
We need a logo that exhibits our approach in a clear and serious but not too "cold" manner. The design should communicate a harmonious blending of, e.g., past (memories) and future (social robotics aiding people). We are aware that not all of the above details will be possible to be included in a logo without overcrowding it but there should be several possibilities of how that might work. The most important elements are expressed by our project's preliminary acronym (HARmOnIC: "Healthy Ageing with RObotic Intercultural Companions"). The intercultural aspect refers to differences between Japanese and Europeans that will be part of the scientific research conducted in this project.
Ideally, the design would strike a balance between harmony, peace as generally positive concepts, and the challenge expressed in this call that is about "healthy ageing", i.e., the attempt to use technology to keep ageing citizens as healthy, active and engaged for as long as possible. If you are looking for a movie-type of reference, think "Robot and Frank", and you should be on track for what this call (and, in the end, the logo) is aiming for.
Target Market(s)
Social Robotics for healthy ageing at home or in care facilities. We will be using some form of companion robot to help elderly people.

Requirements
Must have
- The logo should be well-printable on different backgrounds (but primarily white and black backgrounds). A robotics company would have to find it acceptable, and also elderly people looking at it should find it acceptable as well as modern (but not too modern).
- In addition, at least one of the below points should be included in some form:
- * Social Robotics, or Companion Robotics
- * Healthy Ageing
- * Intercultural encounters
- * Communication
Nice to have
- There should be some form of graphic in addition to the Logo text itself. If the logo text itself is extremely strong, it might work without the graphic component but a good combination of text and image will most likely be preferred.
- The point of the project is that robots will help ageing people to stay as active and independent as possible.
- Note: Color choices are tentative suggestions only (not binding).
Should not have
- Please avoid effects and elements that do not contribute to the message of the logo.
