Logo Design Brief
The Oregon Cascades West Council of Governments (OCWCOG) needs a new logo for its organization. The current logo is outdated and needs a fresh, new look!
What OCWCOG Does:
The OCWCOG manages local, state, and federal programs to serve residents, local governments, and businesses in the tri-County region of Benton, Lincoln, and Linn Counties of Oregon. OCWCOG’s primary function is to serve our communities' needs. OCWCOG:
• helps businesses find appropriate capital;
• facilitates seniors and persons with disabilities plan for independent living;
• coordinates local road improvement priorities; and
• assists with administration and technical support for its member governments.
Each program works towards OCWCOG’s mission of helping the region’s communities collaborate to solve problems and connect member governments, businesses, and individuals with a wide array of resources.
About the Region:
OCWCOG’s member agencies are located in the Willamette Valley and the Central Oregon Coast. The rugged Oregon seacoast, the high mountain passes of the Oregon Cascades, lush greenery, and the agricultural abundance of the Valley are an attractive addition to an education, employment, and cultural hub. The Willamette Valley is positioned at the foot of the Oregon Coast Range and comprises some of the most fertile and lush farmland in the Northwest. Stretching from just below the Oregon-Washington border to the city of Eugene, the Willamette Valley has long been considered the heartland of Oregon. OCWCOG serves two counties in the Valley, Benton and Linn, which contain the regions two biggest cities, Corvallis and Albany, Oregon State University, 18 smaller and diverse jurisdictions, including Lebanon and Philomath, and a multitude of housing, school, dining, and shopping options.
OCWCOG is located in the southern tip of the Valley and a one-hour drive to Portland and 40 minutes to Eugene – the region’s major airports and gateways; and, a twenty-minute drive to Salem, Oregon’s State Capitol, where many of OCWCOG funding agencies and partners are found. The Southern Willamette Valley is best known for its agriculture and its innovation, which include a flourishing wine industry, innovation accelerators, a growing start-up culture, high-tech industry and access to tens of thousands of students, professionals, and entrepreneurs affiliated with Oregon State University, Samaritan Health Systems, Linn-Benton Community College, Hewlett-Packard, the U.S. Department of Energy, and hundreds of other businesses, non-profits, agencies, and community partners.
The quaint communities in Lincoln County offer an amazing variety of restaurants, shops, museums, galleries, and a world-class aquarium. There is also an abundance of recreational activities to choose from, such as deep-sea fishing, whale watching, hiking and camping, kite flying, golfing, clam digging, and crabbing.
Logo Request:
A professional logo will help ensure a cohesive brand identity and a high level of professionalism for work products, public outreach materials, the project’s online presence, etc.
The Organization just adopted two logos for two program guides (see uploaded files), so the Organizations new logo should coordinate with these logos.
The logo should feature a sleek, simple, bold, and clean design. The logo will be used on all printed and electronic materials going forward, so it should be versatile.
Two colors have been used on print materials over the last several months, so should be featured on the logo. OCWCOG is not opposed to a third color being introduced, should you see fit. The two colors are: 8, 41, 165 (blue); and 255, 203, 5 (yellow/gold).
Emerging concepts that should be considered for inclusion in the logo include: connectivity, motion, and the sense of cohesion between the programs that OCWCOG runs (senior and disability services; transportation; and economic development) and the three counties that it serves. For example, linkages via roadways, economic flow, geography, etc.
