Logo Design Brief

Need a logo design for a sailing catamaran named "Discovery" - should convey exploration & discovery of the unknown/uncharted as well as exotic/tropical islands, stars & sunsets. Inspired by the expeditions of the HMS Discovery as well as the missions into space by the NASA Discovery shuttle - both voyages of exploration. Ideally the "Discovery" logo is recognizable as belonging to a sailing vessel. I will also use the logo to brand t-shirts, hats and gifts as required. Website is at svdiscovery.com; tagline is "Explore, Dream, Discover" from a Mark Twain quote.

Requirements

Must have

• The logo has to look good on a white background (see boat images attached) - need to print custom logo/lettering/decals on vinyl
• The name "Discovery" must be readable at a distance for identification purposes

Nice to have

• - I think I like blue with metallic gold (possible silver) - (primarily on white)
• - Was hoping to integrate sails, a horizon (sunset or stars) and possibly a subtle navigational reference
• - leaning towards wordmark or images blended with letters forming a scene/emblem
