I look forward to submitting some designs for this brief but I just want to clarify: are you essentially looking for a stylised versions of the basic black-and-white maps contained in the presentation, with just the trek route and names of the places featured on the maps?

I ask because I wonder if you were expecting the maps to be somewhat illustrated to give the informative look you desire or is the focus simply on the locations and distances and their relativity to the surrounding country/ies?

We'd like to present the trip in an attractive way. It should both show the relative distances etc, but also visually interesting.
