Most of the designs we have reviewed lack the crisp, sharp presentation that you would expect from an exceptional brand. I am not exactly sure how to translate our needs into designer speak, but I would note the following:

1) most designers are using a cursive font for the text which in most cases is hard to read and seems in our opinion to be a way of compensating for an overall mediocre to average design concept.
2) I googled "cat logos" today and found that many of the submitted designs resemble template designs online, such as a logo with a cat wearing sunglasses or a bow tie. While we appreciate fun and clever design concepts, we do not want to sacrifice style and sophistication for that which is cute, playful, and too predictable.

In short, I would suggest that any new submissions eliminate the dramatic cursive/flowery/bubbly text and also avoid cheap or gimmicky design concepts.

We do like the idea of a cat holding or gently pawing a book, or perhaps perched above a book somehow (we would be glad to provide feedback if you're able to suggest interesting concepts before putting much time into them). Most of the designs so far have not achieved the right combination of creative concept and sleek, modern presentation.

The best design thus far, at least insofar as it avoids the mistakes listed above, is the one from ORLYAFFRAN. She keeps it simple and stylish; the logo articulates/underscores/emphasizes the name Blind Cat Books, using nice colors and a font that avoids overwhelming the eye. And I like that she took up my suggestion to merge Blind Cat into BlindCat; sure enough, it reads or sounds better that way.

We hope this candid feedback helps. We are aware that our taste is not a measure of designers' skills, but it seems that brutal honesty is the best way to achieve the right design outcome for our logo, which means a lot to us. Thanks for all your hard work to ALL the designers!!!!! We appreciate it!!!!

I hadn't reviewed some of the recently submitted designs when I wrote the previous post. There are a few designs that make use of a nice cursive text and suggest positioning of the cat in clever ways, without distracting the eye too much. That said, the font should be according to one of us "easy for my grandmother to read.
