I've won many contests that were not guaranteed. I AM NOT MOTIVATED BY MONEY. I'll read a brief and if I can see a design in my head in less than 5 seconds then I'll participate. Inspiral, you are basically the only designer who constantly asks for contests to be guaranteed and it makes me wonder what kind of person you are.

I fully support Inspiral on this. Most of us do not have the superhuman ability to visualise something in "flat 5 seconds". We spend hours on a job and if it doesn't generate a solid result at least for one designer, or, God forbid, somebody 'uses' that with a little tweak and use it as their own, it hurts. It has hurt me before and it has hurt many other designers here. Hence, as a rule I have stopped participating in non-guaranteed contests. As to the question of money, yes, we all are here for the money. If anybody projects the image that they are here only for the thrill, it just shows that they are not getting their "thrills" elsewhere. I don't know Inspiral. But I sincerely appreciate that he takes the initiative to advise clients in guaranteeing the payment that will lead to at least some of the top designers pitching in. What's wrong with that? It's not rude, it's not being money-minded, it is an attempt to help. Even in this discussion page, he wasn't rude, while most comments against him are unwarranted and unfair. Having said that, I also understand a Project Owner's worry of guaranteeing payment without a guarantee of results. Like in world politics, the jargon is "trust deficit". May be DesignCrowd can find a way out where all parties concerned have a certain level of confidence in the initial stage. I would sincerely request Inspiral to continue his advise to clients about guaranteeing the payment.

Thank you so much for the invite! I would love to participate in your project. If you can extend the project deadline by a few days or so I shall be able to submit some ideas to you.
Thanks,
Ash

Thank you for your invitation. I've got few ideas, however two days only is a little too short to try and tweak them to the proper level. If you could extend the deadline it would be at most helpful.

Sincerely yours,
Adam Dawidowicz

My opinion is of no consequence here, but I do know that every contest I have participated in that inspiral also participated in......he/she's first comment was "please guarantee your project". First of all, it is rude because this is a contest as in "may the better design win" and when inspiral asks for guarantee payment, but cannot guarantee a winning design, it looks a little immature.

Secondly, if you are truly doing this as your only source of income, I would reconsider my goals in life because you cannot make a living against a competition of 40k+ designers, especially not in the USA. I truly only do this to establish a good and positive foundation of clientele......ONLY. Repeat business is far more beneficial than one guaranteed payment.

And finally, if you truly are a designer/artist with the degree to back it up, then yes, it is possible to read a GOOD brief and know exactly what the client is looking for with very few if any tweaks. I'd rather have a client improve upon his/her brief than guarantee a payment with no feedback or terrible brief.

Everyone here has the best of both.....guaranteed payment and a well written brief with fantastic feedback but with plenty of room for creativity so you don't feel stuck with just one design option. In a contest, it's almost laughable to see people ask for the client to submit their ideas.....heck if the client can do that, he/she would save money and create it him/herself. I personally will drop out of or not participate in projects where the client tells you what he/she wants you to draw......totally takes away all creativity. Real artists/designers do not have to have clients guarantee or submit examples. If you are leery about participating in a non-guaranteed project, at least submit one GOOD design and if you don't receive any feedback with a day or two of the project closing, withdraw your design and move on to the next project. Please don't give clients the idea that they won't get any good designers if they don't guarantee their project because I am a very very good designer/graphic artist and it hasn't stopped me yet.

Please attempt to be of a mature age, take a class in business or logo art or whatever, but never blame the client for your inadequacies.

Thanks everyone!!

Lisa

IM A She* dnt know why ppl think ima dude :/

Inspiral!

dint read all of that but i know that was a dig, gelousy is a bad thing! tut tut

i felt the same when i joined but hey if you "cant" beat em, then join em "up your game"

i work on these sites because i love the comp, i admire "true" designers, there are many here, you are not one as harsh as that may sound but really, i worked "hard as hell" to learn this skill so do the same ..suk up comments wont make u win.

the project holder actually sent yet another invite saying
"our differences aside we still really like your work and would like you to submit" Sorry i actually dont have the time, holidays only a few selected projects im working on.

This is business and I "do" run a business for my self (alone), i work through these kind of websites and if they require "quality work" then they need to pay for it, i have a "Portfolio" to back it up which is alot more than "you" have.!

Designers work on multipul crowd sourcing websites and can only work few hours a day and still bring in a great income.

So your oppinion means jack to me, i try to look out for fellow designs by "Asking" if they can guarantee, some times i dont even take part, i just ask because its likely the will if i do ask, so its nice for other designers you see ? not "just" for me...

You will learn that when you have been here a while.

And for "Dinesh"
thank you very much for you comment, i really appreciate it and i love your work very inspiring! :D
