The Stable Isotope Facility for Ecosystem Research (SIFER) is a publicly funded, academic research laboratory that measures stable isotope ratios in ecological samples (i.e., soils, water, plants, and greenhouse gases). The isotope ratios we measure include 2H/1H, 13C/12C, 15N/14N, and 18O/16O. This lab is part of the Department of Renewable Resources at the University of Alberta in Edmonton, AB, Canada. We primarily support academic research in the environmental sciences, but also service some government and private industrial clients on a cost-recovery basis. Our facility maintains a large suite of specialized scientific instruments, plant growth chambers, and field-portable greenhouse gas measurement systems, and is operated and overseen by professors, technicians, post-docs, and graduate students.
We would like a simple, clean logo for SIFER that can be used on our website and on print material.
1. The logo should include the letters "SIFER". It is desirable, but not required, for the logo to include the full name of the lab, "Stable Isotope Facility for Ecosystem Research".
2. We do not have a preference on font.
3. It should have 2 or more colours but should still be able to be printed in black and white without losing detail.
4. We would like a graphic element to it but nothing complex.
For reference, the university colours are green (Pantone Coated/Uncoated 356C/356U) and gold (Pantone Coated/Uncoated 7405C/7404U). It is not required for the SIFER logo to include the colours green and gold, but complimentary colours would be desirable. Our sister laboratory, NRAL, recently had a logo designed through a DesignCrowd competition, which can be seen at nral.ualberta.ca and in the attached file. We do not want an identical logo to NRAL, but some similarities would be OK.
