Logo Design Brief

We need a logo for a company that specializes in excavation. They focus on foundations, stone work, ponds, roads, retaining walls, drainage, landscaping, and primarily work with heavy machinery (excavators, bulldozer).
The attached file contains a starting point with the machinery and diamond grating. We feel it needs a bit more color, flavor, Wow. And the owner likes the machinery. We would like to build on that base including the elements of the machine and industrial look.
