App Design Brief

We have a small game on the iPhone which was written in 2008. It is based on the 1980s arcade game Moon Patrol. Our game is not an exact clone of this - but we want to make it better - so it is being re-written at the moment from the ground up.
What we need is some 960x640 screen graphics provided as layered PSD files (so we can break up the elements and use them). We want to keep in the 8-bit colours and style, but some slight modernisation would be considered (maybe some basic shading etc - but nothing which departs from the original game too much).
There are several elements including background artwork, moon rover buggy, aliens, explosions, rocks, missiles etc which need to be provided and in the same look and feel throughout.
A nice "opening screen" graphic would also be great. This screen would have a stylised graphics and have "Play", "High Score" and "Game Center" buttons.
We have provided some screen shots of the current game, the arcade game and some "templates" for what we need.
There will also be a designer credit in the About screen for the graphics work.

Requirements

Must have

• Backgrounds: The backgrounds scroll from side to side in a continuous fashion. They need to be 1920 wide so they can be offscreen and scroll on like a wraparound (see backgroundTemplate.png). The left and right sides MUST meet up so they can wrap to each other. There are 4 backgrounds.
  
  Stars:This is static.
  
  Mountains: These are the dark green (far far away) mountains. These scroll very slowly
  
  Hills: These are the bright green hills which are closer. They scroll a bit faster. (Hills can also be a city in future levels - see video)
  
  Ground:This is the orange terrain in the front. Needs to have a small amount of "rough" on the surface for the buggy to roll on.
  
  Moon buggy should be like our design. Needs to fire forwards and up.
  Wheels need to be animated. Please provide only 2 frames which we can switch between to look like moving.
  
  Please provide 3 or 4 styles of alien. See video for ideas. We can allow for some simple 4 frame animation to give them some personality. A redraw of the aliens in the original would be fine!
  
  Rocks and bolders can look like the original - just updated.

  Screens MUST be provided as 960w x 640h overall. (See provided template files). Layered PSDs so we can take out as many elements as we need.

Nice to have

• Nice shading to give it some personality without going over the top

Should not have

• Should not be updated too much in terms of graphics. Must stay close to the original.
  Must not have a 3D rendered look.
