Logo Design Brief
We need a logo for the library of North Little Rock, Arkansas, which is on the Arkansas River across from Little Rock. We are a separate city with two library branches - one (the Argenta Branch) in the downtown art district (this branch has a beautiful 1930s post office exterior with a completely modern interior) and the (Main Branch) across from the town high school - so the atmosphere is lively and engaging. We have over a 1,000 people a day come through our doors, and we offer much more than books: dvds, passport service, free notary, telescope and fishing pole checkouts, a monthly free concert series, art shows in our galleries, a coffee shop, free computers, free wifi, free downloadable and streaming music, free ebooks, free emagazines - just to name a few.
We like having a capital "L" in the design - as we do now, but ours is outdated. We included the logo we are currently use and how we incorporate it into our materials. We use it with our full name, but we are considering sometimes shortening it to Laman Library and sometimes having the full name depending on the situation. Our main color is a royal/navy-type blue with an orangey/yellow or gold. You might consider playing off the city's logo, which is attached below (NLR with a steamboat wheel) - but only if you could do it in a modern way - and allude to more than books.

Project Deadline Extended
Reason: We are working with designers to provide a half a ship’s wheel (the North Little Rock logo) with something that represents the library on top (such as a fanned-open book). I realize this is not what we discussed about only showing a book, but it was the most viable design so far - until today, when something new and diverse came in. So if you submit, we could be swayed, because we truly my haven’t found exactly the right thing yet.

- An updated feel that could include books and services found in modern libraries - just making certain not to only be about books and not to have items or icons so small they won't show up.
Nice to have
- Please keep in mind that the design is for the system, but to be perfect, it needs to work for both branches as well. We've included photos to give you a feel for them. We are considering incorporating them into "Laman THE Library of North Little Rock" for the system and Main Branch and "Argenta Branch Library in the heart of Argenta" for the Argenta Branch. But we are not married to those ideas. If you come up with something better - then great!
Should not have
- Just books and the name. We are a community-learning organization with dynamic, technological services and creative programs. Books are a small part of all we provide the people of North Little Rock.
