In Vandel, Denmark, where you really follow people's comings and goings, Lea Brix has settled down with her daughter Amalie and her husband Flemming. The family comes from the capital Copenhagen and is definitely outcasts in the small town community. Lea feels undersimulated both intellectually and sexually. Therefore, she seeks distraction by stealing in the local co-op. However, she doesn’t know that the shopkeeper Christian is keeping an eye on her - and has big plans.
As a reader, you are sucked into the backwaters of Jutland so much so that it almost hurts. Vandel is captivating entertainment that takes place on an authentic background, and one can’t help but feel a certain sympathy towards the victims that are drawn into the story’s dramatic spiral.
