Logo Design Brief

This will be the first logo design for a new beekeeping company called "BeeManiacs".
BeeManiacs is a family company and it started as a hobby/weekend activity before going commercial. The four family members (2 under 16 years old) are certified beekeepers and actively engaged in teaching beekeeping to beginners.
We are located in the United States Pacific Northwest, nearby Spokane, WA.

There are two sides for this company:
1- Brick and mortar (real store): we sell direct to the public all kinds of honeybee products (honey, candles, soap, etc) as well as beekeeping equipment (equipment beekeepers buy to keep their bees, like bee hives, tools and clothing, including live bees). We will also sell equipment and live native pollinators (like mason bees).

2- Online store: we will only sell beekeeping equipment online.

We want BeeManiacs to become a recognized brand in US and we will be engraving the company logo in multiple products.

It would be great if the logo consisted of two parts, like the DesignCrowd logo (small graphic plus company name on the side). In some products we will be able to only engrave a small graphic, while in other products we could print or engrave the whole graphic plus text logo. This kind of composite logo would allow us to brand all products, regardless of size. The graphic could be pure graphic or letters.

We are trying to present ourselves as a vigorous company that respects past knowledge and experience but is not afraid to look for and distribute new materials, techniques or tools. We actually welcome change and improvements to the beekeeping techniques (contrary to old and well established companies that have been selling almost the same beekeeping supplies for the last 150 years).

We are flexible and do not have any specific bias for a certain logo shape or color. We are trying to avoid setting limits on designer creativity.

Target Market(s)

There are two independent target markets:
1- Beekeepers needing to buy new beekeeping equipment (honey bee hives, tools, beekeeping suits and gloves, etc). Wide range of ages but since we will be selling online the age group would match internet proficiency ages. In the classes we teach we find approximately 60% male 40% female. Online sales will cover all US territories. Most are becoming backyard (hobby) beekeepers.

2- Local (Spokane, Washington state area in USA) customers buying honeybee products: honey, pollen, wax, candles, soap, etc. Mostly in-store purchase and farmers' markets (no online sales for these products). This customer will be interested in natural, local, fresh, hand-crafted items.

Both target audiences show interest in protecting honeybee and native pollinators and help the environment and supporting sustainable agriculture products.
