Web Design Brief
We are makers of cloud infrastructure software (www.appscale.com) and our target audience is developers. Developers generally want text and icons, they don't care for photos. They want good usability and easy-to-find information. Think github.com, cloud.google.com, www.openshift.com, docker.com for reference.
Your challenge will be to modernize the site and make it look "cool" from a developer's point-of-view while still keeping the basic site structure. You can add graphical elements that make the pages come more alive, suggest different layout options, and incorporate icons that we've recently developed (I've attached them for your review). We will keep the AppScale blue and gray, but you are free to add complementary colors in your designs to help spice up the page. See the complementary colors we've used in the icons package.
A successful design will keep the core identity of our website but will make the pages more exciting and compelling to visit, and make the visitor want to scroll and click to dive in deeper into the site. I also want to see additional mock-ups for the main landing pages (Why AppScale, Products, Community, and a new landing page for Resources).
We use WordPress and the X theme, so if you have familiarity with that theme and its capabilities, even better.

Target Market(s)
Mobile and Web application developers from larger organizations. Developers typically don't like stock images of people or landscapes, they usually just want the information they're looking for presented in a clean and organized way. That said, they do like it if an icon or design element helps them visualize the information. So the design should be useful and necessary to the info provided.
