Logo Design Brief
We need a logo for a mobile game that will be available on the iTunes store. We are in San Francisco and develop a variety of properties. We are looking for app logo in this case for use on the game screen and within the iTunes store, and an icon form of it as well.
It is a puzzle game with a meditative quality, though there is a competitive edge as well.
The game is intended to have a very clean, elegant look, like the Asian board game of Go, if you are familiar with it, or the mobile games QuizUp or Dots.
Words that would be relevant are 'streams', 'growing', 'geometry', 'pretty', 'elegant', 'fun', 'lighthearted', 'thoughtful', 'precision', 'cheerful'.
If the game were an artist it would be a combination of Donald Judd meets Marcel Duchamp and they would be staring at the tiles in the Alhambra.
Visually, the game board is intended to be suggestive of Islamic other geometric tiling. Boards are composed of cells that are geometric shapes such as squares or triangles, and put together into larger shapes. The competitors connect cells together. I have attached screen shots.
It is not intended to be childish or cartoony in any way. See target market.
It's a game, with the intent of being fun, calming, friendly competition, and mildly exciting as such - an enjoyable distraction.
The Logo Text is required to be readable: you can replace or augment letter shapes as desired so long as the text is readable/understandable.
The minimal size and the proportions required is shown in the screen shot that says "STREAMS", which was taken on an iPhone 4s. : It needs to fit within the outer edges of the blue box on the screen that says "Streams". The final will be needed in sizes for standard Apple mobile devices: iPhones & iPads in PS format, PDF, and png. .
Elegance and modernity are probably best. It needs to work with the font style shown in the attached images. That font is Montserrat from Google fonts.
For the logo colors you have two choices: either fit in with the colors that you see in the images provided, or provide the logo along with a palette that could be used instead of the colors we have.
We don't mean to lock you into those colors, only to point you at them so that what you generate doesn't clash with them either.
The button colors are a variant of "Flattastic' on kuler.adobe.com. Please see the button colors on all the pages. (Here are the main button colors: fonts - #222222 and #5B5147, buttons - rgba(160,212,104,0.7), rgba(252,110,81,0.6), rgba(255,206,84,0.6), rgba(72,207,173,0.6) ) As for the colors on the button that says "Flow|Zap" or "Move|Zap", we're not so happy with those blues... So, don't feel locked in by those.
The logo, like all the buttons, will be against a white background.
The colors on the boards (what you see as grey grids) are black, white, and grey (#888888), and sometimes a rose red. In grid, the thick lines are set with a variety of random colors: I've supplied a number of images to give you a feel for them.
Finally, some distinctive, identifiable visual quality of the logo needs to present that for use as a distinctive apple iphone/ipad icon that would seen on iTunes and on the device home screen. Please provide an example of that icon form of the logo.
Updates
Please make sure your design is proportioned to fit within the edges of the blue box shown in the first image, the one that says STREAMS.

Based on what I'm seeing, please make sure you design the logo so it's proportions match the blue box in the first image I provided - the image with the word "STREAMS" large and spelled out.

By the way, I'm currently using the following for a logo which is snapped from the game itself... It's not bad and might help some of you. Â I like it because it refers fairly distinctly and simply to the game itself and the colors are pleasant. Â One approach would be to modify it and incorporate it into the logo design, but you can use it or not... The colors could punchier or modified or left as is... Up to you... I provide it only to help stimulate your visual thinking.

Project Deadline Extended
Reason: Given this contest was over Christmas and near New Years, I'm extending date to give time to refine promising submissions, and allow other designers a shot at it.
I'm also committing the project for funding based on what I'm seeing now.
Thanks for your creative thought,
jeffrey

Project Deadline Extended
Reason: Ok. Those of you who have been engaging, I thank you. I've learned a lot from this.
I need a few more days to engage some final revisions. and some time to meditate on the choices I've received.
There will be no further extensions after this... Decision by next Tuesday, possibly sooner.
