Logo Design Brief

Smash and Grab - the Movie needs an initial graphic as a first step to building a brand. Smash and Grab is a partly-funded, low-budget, Parkour-action movie. Design will have multiple uses at first, as a logo graphic to be incorporated into a Facebook landing page, a web site landing page and intro graphics for crowdfunding campaign videos.

Not to be confused with other Smash and Grab movies: http://www.imdb.com/find?q=smash+and+grab&s=all.

Think Fast & Furious with foot chases instead of cars. Urban, gritty, fast-paced, rooftop chases, multi-ethnic cast, teen audience both genders (story includes romance), graffiti influenced but legible. "Smash and Grab" refers to breaking glass and stealing whatever can be grabbed in a few seconds.

Thanks,
Ian

Hey Designers, we've got some great submissions so far. I have some more ideas. I want the logo to say Parkour/Freerunning without using the words.

BTW, Parkour came out of the French Foreign Legion as a means to cross difficult terrain as efficiently as possible. Freerunning is the acrobatics that developed that's fun to watch but makes little sense in a chase. This logo could lean toward more desperate, life-and-death foot chases, like the opening scene to Casino Royale. Or it could lean toward the fun aspects of Freerunning as long as it stays urban and gritty and implies action-movie.

Google "Freerunning," "Parkour," even "Anarchy" or "trespass," and "symbol," "tattoo" or "graffiti" for ideas. What might a Freerunning Graffiti Artist paint on a wall to say his tribe had been there and conquered the natural obstacles? Think clever marketing. What would Banksy do? In fact, how cool would it be for the logo to work as a stencil, not that I would suggest people spray painting it everywhere. Think about adding a skyline, barbed wire or chain link fence, using silhouettes or paint splatter, even integrating smashed glass effect (unless you think that's too literal). Maybe look into custom car culture for inspiration. To represent the second story line of romance, there could be a male and female Freerunner represented, either chasing each other or running from something together. No guns. Of course every idea can't fit in one design...

Also, the guys smashing storefronts and stealing in my movie might not be all bad. They might have a reason for their crimes. Perhaps they are bored teens playing pranks? Perhaps they are gangster wannabes trying to prove their derring do? Perhaps they are an underground, political entity. Give a sense of fun and mischief without being cartoony. Audience is teens, so you know how jaded they can be.

If this were to become a movie franchise, the themes that would tie all the stories together would be Parkour, crime getaways, teens with all their issues and foolishness outsmarting the grownups, cops and international gangs.

Thanks everybody! Hope I'm not too all over the place...
Ian

Hello design team for my Parkour movie logo.

Thank you all for your creative designs. Even though I'm not offering a tremendous amount of money, you all submitted awesome logos that each have merit and reflect how seriously you took my brief. It's been hard for me to even reduce the designs to a top ten for a poll. You all have skills that exceed my abilities with graphics and I hope you enjoyed the challenge. In about a week after running this next poll I'll make my selection. If you would like to follow the progress of the movie, which I hope to shoot in 2014, please search for "Smash and Grab - Parkour Movie" on Facebook. Happy New Year everybody!

Blessings,
Ian
