Logo Design Brief

I need a general logo for use on all firm projects. I need sophisticated, professional, but modern enough to not be cliche. Needs to show strength, ability, and assurance. My color scheme has been regal purple (Main), tan, soft grey, black. Open to change on colors. Need to avoid cliche legal symbols. Initially for use with firm letterhead, biz cards, WordPress templates, but eventually a custom website.
