Logo Design Brief

We require a logo for a new entity, Police Legacy Tasmania (PLT), which is a public benevolent institution focused on advancing the social and public welfare of police officers, both current and former, and their families in the event of adverse situations such as permanent disability or death. PLT will rely solely upon membership subs and public donations , and as such is listed as a not for profit organisation, thus making any donation tax deductible.
DESIGN SPECS
Keeping in line with the police theme we would like to see;
the color blue used and;
possibly the well known, blue and white checkered ribbon as associated with police.
Maybe the Tasmanian map, you know, that little island off the bottom of Australia!
Something simple and not over complicated
NOTE: please do not use the flame/candle associated with Legacy.
