can you please guarantee the project?

by Project Owner on Wednesday, February 6, 2019

Dear Creative Chamber,
Thank you for your message. I am unfortunately not in the position to make that decision, however for what it's worth we are extremely eager to begin a longer term relationship with the right designer as more workbooks are developed in the series. We look forward to seeing creations and very much hope to find the one that fits. I hope you will still consider submitting your ideas.
Thanks for considering us!

Hi,
I don't get if 3D is a must or preferable.
Thank you.

Hi there! Please consider increasing the prize for the amount of work expected--which is ultimately 40 unique illustrations (20 x 2 poses) and barely 10 USD per illustration.

Hello Kaiser77,
Thanks for your question. We welcome all inquiries and aim to be as clear as we can, so keep them coming if there are any more.
It definitely does not have to be 3D. We mentioned it's preferable because we imagine that might cater to kids' attention more, but it's more that special style that fits the bill that we're looking for, and that might very well be 2D.
Thanks again Kaiser77. We hope to hear from you again!

Hello Edin O!
Thanks for your suggestion. Unfortunately we're on a tight budget and at the moment cannot increase the offer. That said we mentioned in the brief that 2 positions would be preferred, but it would not be necessary, so if only 1 pose per character is possible we will of course consider that. We definitely want to offer a fair project and are open to your suggestions.
Thanks again Edin O. Hope to hear from you again!

I am worried that there is not a brief for each of the characters, because you ask not to fall into colloquial details like the brush for the star of the arts.
With such a low budget we would be grateful if you could tell us what you expect from each of the characters

Dear OliverWangho,

Thank you for sharing your concern, and we deeply regret our lack of budget. We really want to be fair to designers and respect the industry's expectations while being limited in resources. In an attempt to show good faith we have increased the prize money according to our means. We hope this will help in your consideration of this project.

Regarding character expectations, we had decided not to provide such detailed specifications for each character in order to avoid limiting the creativity of individual designers. We don't always know what we're looking for until we see it, therefore we only wanted to mention that we are trying to avoid cliches and stereotypes for these characters, as they'll be educational graphics for international children. We want all kids to know they could be a mathematician or a dancer, and that there is more to art than painting (which tends to be a standard icon for representing art class). That being said we'll list some ideas here, but please don't let these ideas limit your own invention/creativity.

We'd hope that each star character has an element of its topic in the lists below (character trait or subject area) combined with its own individual, multicultural element. These would include diverse demographics and aim to include a variety of religions (one star has a Jewish kippah, another a Muslim hijab, for example), races in "skin" tones (darker and lighter colors, though we're looking for rainbow tones rather than human skin colors), ages (maybe the star of care seems like a teenager while the star of reflection seems like a grandma), gender (some stars clearly male, some female, some gender neutral), and cultures (although this is where we want to avoid the stereotypes like a Mexican hat or a Scottish kilt). Combing one main multicultural element and one character trait/subject area concept will hopefully be enough to individualize each star.

Stars of Character Traits:

1. Star of Courage: something with a heart, as the root of the word comes from Latin "cor," meaning heart

2. Star of Care: a warm smile, "hands" (star points) coming forward as if to give a hug)

3. Star of Open-Mindedness: a facial expression looking up at own head, which has some abstraction emanating from it

4. Star of Principles: shape after or position of an old fashioned justice scale

5. Star of Reflection: mirror sunglasses

6. Star of Thought: network of gears in head

7. Star of Balance: standing on one "foot" holding a book, an apple and a rake in one hand and a football, video game controller and candy in the other

8. Star of Inquiry: a pirate with a spyglass

9. Star of Communication: holding hand to ear as if listening, dressed in letters from multiple alphabets

10. Star of Knowledge: wearing a quilt cloak with patches representing random topics, such as a frog, a map of Tortola, a snowboard, muffins, etc.

Stars of Academic Subject Areas:

11. Star of References and Warm-Ups: yoga clothes and pose

12. Star of Language: maybe a sign language sign in one hand and the other hand holding a braille image

13. Star of Mathematics: Fibonacci spiral

14. Star of Arts: spray paint can / tasteful graffiti

15. Star of Science: neurons, electrons, cells

16. Star of Personal, Social, and Physical Health: meditating?

17. Star of Humanities and Social Studies: time warp spiral

18. Star of Technology: devices in hands, virtual reality glasses

19. Star of Multiple Intelligences: carrying several different kinds of hats in arms, a couple on head, all labeled with a multiple intelligence (Musical, Bodily-Kinesthetic, Interpersonal, Verbal-Linguistic, Mathematical-Logical, Naturalist, Intrapersonal, Visual-Spatial, Existential)

20. Star of Reflections and Wrap-Ups: scissors and some ribbon to wrap a present

We hope there are better ideas than these, but this is a start. We'd love to see the style of your design number 19201948 / 18619460 / 18326280 applied to stars. We hope you'll consider this.

Thanks again for reaching out to us!
