Graphic Design Brief
We need a fun logo for our National Dog Show!
The American Cavalier King Charles Spaniel Club needs a graphic for their 2020 Dog Show. The show will be held at Roberts Centre in Wilmington, Ohio, and we are thinking of going with a royalty theme.
I am attaching some of our previous years logos so you can get a feel for what we usually go for. One designer made a comment that sort of captures what we are looking for ... think of a little dog that travels the world, having all these different, fun experiences. He might be a king, a captain, a cowboy.
The design will need to be provided in .ai/.eps, .png, and .jpg formats. We will also need a line drawing or 2-color version of the logo chosen. The club mascot from our regular logo should be incorporated, which is attached as a small jpg "colorized dog" and our large .eps file. The design will be used for embroidery as well as print work and online, so it should NOT have gradients and the letters need to be clear and easy to embroider. Super-fine elements which are not embroiderable should not be included. If possible, colors should be limited to 6. Our 2020 Show website does have red as a primary color, so would be nice to have a little bit of red somewhere in the design. In the past, we have leaned towards playful designs; this year could either be playful/whimsical or maybe a little more elegant with the royalty theme.
We've done a lot of medallion shaped logos in the past and we won't rule out a good design because of that, but something different would be great. Landscape or square/round is probably a better choice something tall and skinny.
Please remember that this is not a logo for the Club, but a logo to market/advertise the show with. We want people to look at the logo and think - "that looks fun/special - I don't want to miss this event."
Creativity appreciated. I've attached a few examples of what the "real" dogs look like, and some show logos from previous years.
The site we will be using is ackcsc.org/2020national but the logo currently on there is just a placeholder until we got something better.
I will try to give feedback on submitted designs.
Design will be used for the website, embroidery on chair backs, and print media.
Updates
We want to give some more design time for our designers to make some revisions and complete their designs.

Must have
- ACKCSC
- 2020 National Specialty
Nice to have
- Must Have:
- - Definitely prefer incorporation of the Club's Mascot, would be willing to consider other ideas but you are probably better off using our mascot dog. Please do NOT use other dog breeds than the cavalier King Charles Spaniel.
- Nice to Have:
- Royalty elements (for example: crowns, capes, shields, castle, carriage, spector, scroll, etc., shields, thrones, coat of arms; club mascot dog(see attached files, specifically "colorized dog" file).
Should not have
- Should Not Have:
- - Other Dog Breeds
- - Gradients, greyscale or small type or intricate elements that would make it not suitable for embroidery or printing on t-shirts. Design will be used for the website, embroidery on chair backs, and print media. Please do not submit designs with other breeds of dogs. This show will ONLY be for Cavalier King Charles Spaniels. If you look at the attached files, you will see photos of Cavaliers as well as previous logo samples.
- Please do not post multiple versions of your logo showing how it would look embroidered, on the wall, on stationary, etc. You may post multiple logos that are slightly different. Thanks.
- Please try to limit to six colors, including black and white. If possible, include red.
