THE CANINE HEALTHY SOIL PROJECT
The canine healthy soil hypothesis, states that exposure to healthy soil can help restore the dog’s missing microbes, their “old friends”, and enhance their overall health.
In the clinical setting, veterinarians still see a lack of optimal health in dogs, even ones on balanced, species-appropriate, fresh food diets, which leads us to theorize that something is still missing: their ancestral microbes found in nutrient-rich soil and other ancestral environments. If our healthy soil hypothesis is true, we can revolutionize the way dogs are raised and cared for.
The ancestral diets of dogs consisted primarily of raw foods often covered in dirt and soil. One gram of soil may contain many trillions of microbes, of tens of thousands of different species, including archaea, bacteria, fungi, nematodes, protists, viruses, and other organisms too small to see without a microscope (hence the term “microbes”). For years many people assumed that these microbes were harmful, but we now know that many of them are actually beneficial and closely linked with our dogs’ well-being. Thanks to new technology, we can now study them in unprecedented detail.
GENES AND MICROBES WORKING IN HARMONY
Just as we found that most dogs are healthiest when they consume their natural diets, we think most dogs are healthiest with their natural microbial populations. Dogs co-evolved with the trillions of microbes that are in and on the dog. The dogs who had the greatest “harmony” between their genes and the microbes to which they were exposed were most fit and successful. From an evolutionary perspective, the canine genes selected for were those that fit best with the microbes in their environments.
MICROBES ARE LINKED TO HEALTH
For instance, dogs with little microbial biodiversity in the gut, or those raised in sterile environments and eating sterile foods, are more likely to suffer from common illnesses, while dogs with more diverse microbiota were more likely to have improves health.
Updates
Dear Designers, I apologize if I wasn't clear enough in my brief. Most of you submitting proposals/designs, first thank you, second the name of the company is Canine Healthy Soil Project, and the tagline-(or as close to one we have) is Restoring the dog's ancestral microbiota. it seems as all the art work starts with Restoring the dog's........as the main feature. If you could please reverse the verbiage to highlight Canine Healthy Soil Project, and if possible add the tagline. ( not required)
Thank you for your support & understanding. I appreciate all the work everyone is doing to make this a great log.
