Book Cover Design Brief

We're looking for a talented graphic designer to make a sequel shine! The popular homespun and heartwarming book "Seashells, Gator Bones, and the Church of Everlasting Liability" (http://books2read.com/toadsprings1) is getting a sequel in "Moonshine, Muffins, and a Bowl of Gator Stew."

This cover should reflect a country lifestyle in 1930s Florida (so no modern buildings/technological features, etc), with bright colors and a "down-home" Bombeck sort of feel. The stories involve zany characters and is funny, poignant, and charming all at once.

Provided for reference is the cover of the first book in the series, but please don't feel it necessary to stick to that sort of style. We're more concerned with an excellent cover composition for this book than with consistency.

We'll need final deliverables in Photoshop and/or Illustrator format, and we'll have both trade paperback and hardcover sizes (specs provided later).

Must have

  • Deliverables in Photoshop/Illustrator format WITH LAYERS
  • Total ink coverage cannot exceed 320%
  • Wraparound trade aperback design (templates in both PDF and InDesign provided with brief)
  • Appropriate typography
  • 1930s-era feel ("time gone by" "nostagic" etc)
  • Realistic/photorealistic art style

Nice to have

• Possible ideas:
  
  • "main street USA" - some shops along a road with 1930s-era cars parked outside (not too many, it's set in a very small town)
  • winding country road with small houses bordering a river or lake

Should not have

• • NO ABSTRACT/IMPRESSIONIST art style
  • No technological features - no modern cars, power poles, or buildings
