Logo Design Brief
I run the Educational Technology, Knowledge, Language, and Learning Analytics Research Group at the University of Alberta. We call ourselves EdTeKLA for short. We create technologies to support people’s learning and then use those technologies to study how people learn. We develop
- experimental technologies to support learning,
- language-learning technologies,
- adaptive learning technologies,
- learning analytics, and
- ways of communicating information about learning.
We then use those technologies to understand how people learn so that we can make better technologies that enable people to get the support that they need.
Members of our group have diverse backgrounds. Our group consists of
- educators, computer scientists, linguists, software developers
- high school students, undergraduate students, faculty, graduate students, and other researchers
We are in the process of creating our visual brand and have selected a colour palette. The logo does not need to use all of the colours but it should be consistent with this palette (see attached).
Wordmark logos are common in my context but are not required. Some examples of colleagues' logos include

I don't want my group's full name used in the logo. Rather, I would like our short name (EdTeKLA) included.
Expected Typefaces: DinPro, Arial, or another sans serif font
Updates
I'm seeing many designs that use graduation caps. I can understand why people may have chosen this icon, but we are not focused on graduation and I feel that this misrepresents our group.
