Logo Design Brief

MetaVEH stands for Metamaterials Enhanced Vibration Energy Harvesting. The project is funded by the European Union and aims at improving current vibration energy harvesting technologies to power portable/wearable sensing devices (for instance: temperature, pressure, humidity, motion and heartbeat sensors, accelerometers).
Vibration energy harvesting is a technique able to convert mechanical vibrations into electrical energy using piezoelectric materials: materials that when deformed produce a voltage difference that moves charges and can be used to power small devices or to recharge small batteries.
Attached, you find a naive sketch, done by myself with some ideas. However I will be happy to consider very different designs.

  • The logo MetaVEH should be simple and possibly recall some of the following elements:

    Rainbow: vibrations are amplified exploiting a physical effect called “rainbow trapping”. Like in the classic atmospheric rainbow, different frequencies (colours) are spatially selected and harvested separately.

    Waves: vibrations and oscillatory motion are our primary source of energy.

    Metamaterials: Imagine that you replace a solid and continuous block of some material with something of the same size, same materials but with an architected patterned structure. You just obtained a metamaterial (examples: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mechanical_metamaterial).

    Electrical circuits: An electrical circuit made with diodes, capacitors and resistors is used to convert alternate current from the piezoelectric material into direct continuous current necessary to power electronic devices (e.g. sensors or batteries).

    MEMS: Ultimately, we aim at powering MEMS sensors which look like electronic chips (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microelectromechanical_systems)
