Logo Design Brief

We have a family ranch in the Texas Hill Country that has been in our family for four generations. We would like to create a logo that we can use for things such as a metal sign on the front gate, cups, hats and stickers. There are some key themes that may make sense to incorporate such as a live oak tree (we have lots of oak trees on the property). My great grandfather purchased the land when he retired from Purina (feed manufacturer). His son (my grandfather) had a Purina feed store in downtown Austin, TX and sold mostly cattle feed. I’m wondering if we could incorporate the Purina checkered logo pattern somehow in a logo. It may not look good so it’s not mandatory. Just an idea.
