CD Cover Design Brief

I'm looking for cover art for my album that is in the "Americana" genre. It has some songs that are a little towards hard rock, but a couple are softer ballads as well. The album is called "Ribbons, Flags, and Parades," focusing on the after-effects of combat on the ones that serve. I want to integrate red, white and blue themes that are not pandering or kitchy. If possible, I would like to subtly integrate the "battlefield cross" which is attached as an image. I would like it to be as simple as possible, and don't want it solely military focused because the album is a collection of stories, only a few of which are explicitly military.
