This project is a poster that will be in the public/lobby areas of ice hockey rinks to introduce an initiative to address the rampant abuse of officials.

- Work together to create solutions ... not point fingers or assign blame.

Primary Message:
1) IT’S NOT OK!!!
Ice hockey has experienced a significant increase in unacceptable behavior by players, coaches, parents, fans, and officials. It’s time for an intervention that will bring an end to the adversarial environment in the rink that has been negatively impacting all of us. The way things are right now in this sport IS NOT OK!!!
2) WE CAN ALL DO BETTER
Nobody wins when on-ice officials are abused by coaches, players, parents, or fans. This type of behavior is not only inexcusable, but also completely unproductive.
Abusive behavior does not change anything that has already occurred, and it certainly isn’t going to change future calls to the abuser’s advantage.
Whistles don’t get unblown, disputed calls/non-calls don’t get overturned, and penalties don’t get dismissed.
Instead, emotions take control, tempers flare, more penalties ensue, inappropriate behavior escalates, and ultimately the safety of all participants is placed at risk.
This behavior merely creates an adversarial and combative environment that will always negatively impact the remainder of the game for everyone involved.
3) What is WHY THE WHISTLE?!?
We are referees who are partnering with players, coaches, parents, and fans to address and eliminate unacceptable behavior. We are developing tools to facilitate an alignment between on-ice officials and those for whom we officiate. We aren’t interested in complaining or assigning blame, but genuinely want to find solutions that ALL of us can accept, and will be willing to implement, and stand behind.
WhyTheWhistle?!? Branding Images & Logo should be prominently displayed within the design.
