Hello,
The Lacemaker’s Guide is a YouTube Channel that focuses on teaching the dying art of bobbin lace production. This home craft reached its peak during the 16th century and is featured in several paintings of the Renaissance period. Several books teach bobbin lace, but no video teaching system for the art can be easily found/accessed.
The Lacemaker’s Guide will be hosted by myself (a 30-year-old female American living in Belgium) and will feature:
- Basic tutorials of lacemaking
- Long-form videos of projects from start to finish
- Historical narratives about lace
The feeling I want for this channel is relaxing, friendly, and cheerful.
The target audience will primarily be women between the age of 25-55 with experience in alternative handcrafts (knitting, embroidery, crocheting, etc.) who will appreciate the time commitment to make lace and enjoy the opportunity to discover a 'new' craft to keep their hands busy.
Since this is a unique topic, I’ve provided examples of bobbin lace patterns & images.

o I do not hold copywrite for this pattern! However, it is an excellent example of the pricking pattern (the dots and zigzags), the technical pattern (always with either red/green/blue to indicate the type of stitch), and the final lace image.
Though I do not hold the copywrite of the complete pattern, the colored portions indicate common ‘motifs’ that can be utilized in a logo design.
Bobbins and Bobbin Pillows:
o Attached you’ll find several bobbins/pillow designs that might provide some inspiration. In a Google search, you’ll see many different types of bobbins and pillows. For simplicity, I’ve provided examples that reflect Belgian Bobbin Lace (my primary style).
Color:
Regarding color, I have no firm opinion. My preference tends to fall into blue, teal, purple, coral/rose but I am open to other ideas. Generally speaking, I try to avoid ‘harsh’ colors and go for more rich/jewel or dusty tones.
Formatting:
The final logo will be primarily used on YouTube, Instagram, Facebook, web platforms, and occasionally in print. The logo should be recognizable in black on white, white on black, multi-color print as well as digital platforms. Additionally, if possible, a way to have a 1-3 second animation for an introduction reel on YouTube.
To whomever takes this challenge, thank you. I have a content marketing background, but limited graphic design experience, so I appreciate the valuable role you play help me bring a dream to reality.
