YouTube Design Brief
I need a logo, channel background, and profile picture for my YouTube channel, McWitt’s Makes, Takes & Breaks, which focuses on hands-on DIY projects, tool reviews, creative solutions, enhancements, and trip experiences. The channel is divided into three main areas: Makes, Takes & Breaks.
Makes – Things I create, including 3D printing, art, drawing, models, woodworking, and technology-related builds and modifications. Technology plays a key role in the design, engineering, and execution of my projects.
Takes – Reviews and opinions on various products, tools, and experiences, along with my retakes and mistakes. This also includes my perspective on technology, software, how-tos, and favorite tools. Given my experience running a successful technology and Managed IT company, as well as my background in communications, tech, computers, coding, art, the Marines, operations management, entrepreneurship, design, and engineering for over 30 years, I bring a unique and well-rounded viewpoint to my reviews and insights.
Breaks – Time off, leisure, travel reviews, entertainment reviews, and a play on words for things I break down or things I accidentally break or mess up. Technology is also incorporated here, whether it’s gadgets used for travel, entertainment tech, or tools that enhance leisure experiences.
The channel blends craftsmanship, family collaboration, and creative problem-solving with a fun and informative approach.
I want the logo to be bold, modern, and visually engaging, reflecting the maker, tinkerer, and review aspects of the brand. It should work well for both YouTube and general branding, including merchandise or social media.
Design Preferences:
Style: Clean, modern, slightly industrial, but fun and inviting.
Color Preferences: Open to suggestions, but consider bold colors like orange, blue, or gray with a contrast that pops.
Typography: A mix of strong, readable fonts—can include a slightly techy, handmade, or blueprint-style feel.
Icons/Symbols: Could incorporate elements like tools, gears, a play button, or a stylized "M" that represents the brand.
Theme: Should reflect a maker space, workshop, or creative lab vibe while being family-friendly.
I’m open to creative concepts that balance craftsmanship, reviews, and exploration, making it clear that this is a channel about making, testing, and breaking things down in an informative and fun way."
Deliverables:
Usable Logo – A distinct, high-quality logo that represents the brand.
YouTube Channel Background (Banner) – A well-designed banner that fits YouTube’s specifications and aligns with the brand.
Profile Picture – A recognizable image for YouTube and social media.
Intro and Outro Animations (Future Consideration) – Possible future branding elements.
Website Graphics (Future Consideration) – Potential assets for online presence.
I will be providing photos for the profile picture, pictures of projects, and sample logo ideas that I liked from DALL-E to help designers better understand the brand’s style and theme.
Project Considerations:
Target Market: DIY enthusiasts, hobbyists, makers, and tinkerers interested in woodworking, home improvement, creative problem-solving, and technology applications.
Must-Haves: Strong branding that clearly represents the Makes, Takes & Breaks theme, with elements that symbolize creation, testing, and reviews.
Nice to Haves: Subtle nods to Pacific Northwest influences, blueprint-style accents, or maker-space aesthetics.
Should Not Haves: Overly complex or hard-to-read designs, excessive text, or unrelated imagery.
Industry: DIY, Maker Community, Woodworking, Home Improvement, Product Reviews, and Technology.
Slogans & Taglines Considered:
Designers may incorporate these into their concepts if they wish:
“Build. Review. Explore.” – A simple and concise way to capture the three main elements of your channel.
“Making Things. Taking Notes. Breaking It Down.” – A fun play on words that highlights the hands-on, review, and deconstruction aspects.
“Craft, Test, Tinker – No Limits.” – Highlights your DIY spirit and tech-driven approach.
“Innovate, Evaluate, Recreate.” – Ties into making, reviewing, and improving on ideas.
