T-shirt Design Brief
Design a t-shirt, front and back, for an engineering design contest for undergraduate students. They are young, and want something cool-looking, but as engineers, they tend to be a bit traditional.
Incorporate our logo: Attached in 2 versions:
1. With "36th WERC" on top of the earth.
2. With 36th WERC" below the earth
Write: WERC ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN CONTEST, NMSU COLLEGE OF ENGINEERING somewhere on the shirt, front and back
Somewhere note: 36th year.
We're open to new ideas! As you can see from uploaded examples from 2020 and 2023, we once wrote each school's project name(s), and the second time we did not. For 2026, we have 5 more teams than we did back then, so how would you accommodate this? Any suggestions for communicating each team's project would be appreciated!
T-shirt style: Soft and lightweight (Gildan SoftStyle).
Restrictions: No big blocks of plastic-feeling printing, please.
Colors: Two-color or three-color artwork.
Front--two styles:
1. Full-front design for students
2. Pocket version of the full-front design for faculty
Back--one style--full-back design to creatively include:
a. The names of 23 teams incorporated into a design that reflects our logo. (Such as placing all team names within a recognizable shape, such as a leaf or splashing water. Or, placing the text in an interesting abstract shape of your own design). For the first mock-up, you can copy this team name and task number 23 times: "Michigan Technological University Task 4"
b. List sponsors, with sizes varying according to sponsorship level. This year we have 1 diamond, 3 platinum, 1 silver, 2 copper, and 3 iron sponsors. You don't need to write each sponsorship level again for each company. I only did it for clarity for you to know which is which.
Diamond: NM Space Grant Consortium
Platinum: Chevron
Platinum: City of Las Cruces
Platinum: Freeport-McMoRan
Silver: NGL Water Solutions
Copper: Hazen
Copper: Souder, Miller, & Associates
Iron: Jacobs
Iron: Pettigrew & Assoc.
Iron: Los Alamos Technical Assoc.
c. If there is space, list the titles of each design challenge (Tasks):
2026 Tasks:
1. After RO: Brine Management
2. Recovering Water from Cooling Towers
3. Bio-inspired Critical Mineral Recovery in Mining Waters
4. NASA Survive the Night: Logistics Container Challenge
5. Enhanced Evaporation for Produced Water
6. Open-sourced Environmental Monitors
7. Open Task
Attached please find:
1. Our 2026 Logo. 2 Versions. Your design will be based on that graphic.
2. Two samples of how we (very differently) incorporated all university's names into older logos (our logos change each year) (2020 & 2023)
