Tattoo Design Brief
I am getting a half sleeve tattoo done on my right arm in 2 weeks. I want to have a couple ideas drafted for the artist when I arrive but I am not very artistic. My idea is a main large piece on the shoulder/bicep and then detailed Viking style carvings and designs that flow around the piece and down the arm to take up the remaining space. I will attach the styles of Viking designs I’m thinking of and examples of tattoos that I’ve seen that I like. Now the main piece I want to create 3 different options as I don’t know how much detail will be able to be shown based on the space available and the style of the artist. I will attach some AI renderings of Design #1 that I’ve been working on and again tattoo styles that I’ve seen that I like. .
Design 1 has several submissions that I really like, any additional submissions would be better focused on design #2 If possible!
Or simply design submissions for the carvings/norse designs that will be around the forearm below the main piece.
Design #1:
The background theme of the work is:
“We are but beasts of burden, seek hardships and thus be fulfilled”
A Viking style soldier holds up a shutting portcullis (like the midevil thick doors that would drop straight down behind a draw bridge?) with arrows in him/wounded as he grimaces to hold up the gate so his men can make it past him. There’s possibly bodies and arrows and fires around him in the walkway and on the walls as a battle has been raging. It’s a limited space so maybe 1 or 2 of his soldiers running by him or maybe just in the background as we don’t want it to take away from the main figure. I’ll attach what I’ve come up with so far but the AI design doesn’t ever do the gate properly.
DESIGN #2
I submitted sample pictures below of a Viking boat with warriors in it that looks cool.
I’m thinking a Viking longboat pulling up to shore as its crew jumps over the edge to attack as arrows rain down around them and the ship is on fire and they are in motion of actively hopping
Over the side of the boat.

Requirements
Must have
- Black/grey and white only! Not looking for color or if there is color it’s only slight amount used to add detail to the image and it must be darker colors as light colors fade badly.
Nice to have
- I would like the design to incorporate the main piece on the shoulder but also show how you would incorporate the carvings and Viking designs around it and or down the arm from the low bicep/elbow pit to half way down the forearm. I have put references of what areas will be covered and the size of the areas.
