Logo Design Brief

Our research center, Translational Approaches to Pathogens of Human Significance is funded by the USA's National Institutes of Health under the Center of Biomedical Research Excellence (COBRE) and is known unofficially as the "Pathogens COBRE"

We target research of highly prevalent diseases like malaria, tuberculosis, schistosomiasis and Ebola.  Our center includes a number of research scientists who study some of the world’s most deadly pathogens.  Our work will have a global impact to seek and accelerate improved treatments to protect vulnerable populations of children and adults from infection and disease.

We would like to see logo designs that incorporate the global focus of our research efforts and are compatible with our parent organization, Center for International Health Research (CIHR) logo (see attached 2 versions with different color options).  The CIHR logo may appear at times with our logo, the two logos should be distinct, but able to visually align  and not clash.

There should be an emphasis on the global / human aspect as well as the research /technical component. The overall feel should be warm rather than hard high core tech and colors might include:
Primary palette
• Deep blue / navy
• Teal / cyan
• White / light gray
Accent (sparingly)
• Dark red / maroon (ties to disease burden without alarmism)
• Muted gold (optional, translational impact)

Also attached is a concept logo from ChatGPT (pathogens-cobre-example-logo.jpg) which isn't horrible, but we are looking for something more clever and well designed.

Global Emphasis
• Abstract pathogens, molecular motifs, or microscopy-inspired shapes (nothing cartoonish)
◦ Overlaid with interconnected nodes representing Pathogens
• Oval or circular (like CIHR)
• Clean, institutional, NIH-appropriate
• Should still stand alone on grants, posters, publications
• Horizontal logo (works well on posters, slides, websites)
• Use clean, NIH-appropriate sans-serif fonts like Sans Pro, Lato, Open Sans, Helvetica Neue, etc
