Mercantile Outfitters — T-Shirt Design Brief
The Brand
Mercantile Outfitters is a premium, T-shirt-only outdoor apparel brand — rugged but refined, not loud action-sports, not minimalist basics. Heavyweight garment-dyed cotton, built to last, worn by people who actually go outside.
Tagline: "Fewer Shirts. Built Better."
Direction (loose guidance, not rules)
General mood: earthy, warm-neutral tones (forest, rust, denim, sand, charcoal), outdoor/adventure subject matter (mountains, trail, wildlife, camp life, night sky, road trips), and a quality bar closer to Arc'teryx or Patagonia's illustrated era than novelty-tee humor. Beyond that, we're genuinely open — bring your own eye and surprise us. Creative risks are welcome.
The image attached/below is one potential example of the direction — not a template. Deviate from it freely if your own instinct takes you somewhere better. The one thing to hold onto from it: the finished design needs to look genuinely high-quality and refined — not like a cheap gift-shop or tourist-trap graphic. If it reads as generic or low-effort, it's not right for this brand.
What to Avoid
Flat, evenly-spaced "zigzag triangle" mountain clip art. This READS AMATEUR IMMEDIATELY and is an instant rejection.
Same goes for the "kid drawing a mountain" shape in any form
Novelty/humor text tees, puns, meme-tee energy
Neon or candy colors that clash with an earthy, considered mood
