We need two logos designed; one that is restricted in design (Transects logo) and one that has a lot more freedom (LTERN logo).
LTERN Logo
About LTERN:
The key objective of the LTERN (Long Term Ecological Research Network) is to integrate established long-term plot networks across Australia to tackle critical questions associated with the impacts of disturbance on Australian ecosystems (think climate change, impact of humans, population growth etc on these plots). These plots are located all around Australia to ensure that different ecosystems are repeatedly monitored.
The plot network will provide the infrastructure (ie datasets) to achieve a sustainable set of long term data collection procedures and archives from plots across Australian ecosystems. Selected flora and fauna and biophysical processes will be measured, allowing for key ecosystem science questions to be answered and for the development and testing of ecosystem models.
What we want:
We need a logo which reflects the importance of using studies that have existed for over 10 years in Australia and need to persist for many more decades to allow society to better understand how the environment is changing, why it is changing and what is driving the change. This type of knowledge is critical to allow society to better adapt to current problems facing humanity.
Requirements:
We need to communicate what our work is about. This logo will need to sit within the MSPN ring design (attached). It is also advisable if this follows the detailed colour palette (may include other colours but not depart significantly from these). We would like to have an image within the rings and the text LTERN either also within the rings or alongside or below them.
Transects Logo
About Transects:
The Transects Subfacility aims to better understand the Australian Ecosystem by sampling across wide distances to look at how species change with their environment. For example, our South Australian transect studies how plants and animals shift from the cool, wet areas to the hot, arid north of the state. This allows us to better understand how our native ecosystem will respond to future changes in climate and other impacts.
Requirements:
-should consist of 3-5 lines (intersecting or not) to illustrate the concept of a network of transects
-should use the colour palette (may include other colours but not depart significantly from these)
-should sit within the MSPN ring design
(a mock-up of this logo will be attached)
Background
LTERN and Transects are part of a the Multi-Scale Plot Network (MSPN), which forms a key part of the Terrestrial Ecosystems Research Network (TERN). The MSPN includes two other elements, AusPlots and the Australian Supersite Network. Logos for the TERN, MSPN, AusPlots and Australian SuperSites Network have already been developed (attached for reference) and it is envisaged that the new LTERN and Transects logos will often be displayed alongside one or more of these. The new LTERN and Transects logos should complement (BUT NOT REPLICATE IN ANY WAY) the existing logos.
Updates
Project Deadline Extended
Reason: We have extended our deadline because we have not had enough feedback from our key stakeholders yet to help us make a decision.
