Logo Design Brief
CannySites.com and CannyInsights.com are two halves of one business, based in Gateshead in the North East of England.
Established in 2007, CannySites.com owns and manages a portfolio of online consumer directories - featuring retailers and services relating to the home, garden and holidays - and a built environment subject gateway, Sapling.info. (These individual directories already have their own logos, which we intend to retain.)
Launching this autumn, CannyInsights.com will complement CannySites.com by providing insightful research and consultancy with a retail, built environment or online marketing flavour.
As the business enters its new phase, we are looking to replace our existing, temporary CannySites.com logo (see http://www.cannysites.com/) with a new, shared visual identity for both CannySites.com and CannyInsights.com.
We envisage that CannySites.com and CannyInsights.com will each use an identical emblem or symbol, with accompanying text that can be 'CannySites.com', 'CannyInsights.com' or both combined.
Target Market(s)
CannySites.com works with small UK retailers who are looking to promote their online stores via our directories, and with web and SEO consultants who are looking to advertise their clients' sites. CannyInsights.com will sell its research and consultancy services to both these groups, as well as to other organisations - such as regeneration companies and local authorities - who will use the insights to help develop successful town centres and public places.

Requirements
Must have
- 'Canny' is a versatile word - it conveys being good and being knowledgable, but is also a word that is warm, friendly, and rooted in the North East. We would like our new logo to reflect what we see as our 'canny values': Proud to be based in North East; expert; design savvy; pays attention to detail; respected; knowledgeable; personable; accessible; well presented
- Please present two versions of your design: one with the wording 'CannySites.com' and one with 'CannyInsights.com'. It is important that the '.com' part of the name is included, as this is an integral part of the brand.
Nice to have
- Social networking - via LinkedIn, Twitter and Facebook - is important to us, and will become increasingly so. It will be useful to have a symbol or emblem that can be used, probably without the accompanying text, as a distinctive and recognisable avatar.
Should not have
- We are proud of our North East roots, but do not want a logo that is too literal. There are already too many businesses whose logos use a variation of the 'blinking eye' Gateshead Millennium Bridge!
