My YA book, "Locked," is the first in a trilogy.
It tells the story of Hope, a teenaged girl whose abduction as a four-year-old continues to haunt her, even though her experience of it is locked away, deep in her memory. Every day, her past stares her in the face - it's in the daily reminders that her parents split up over their shared guilt; it's in the way her father keeps her hidden away in a misguided effort to protect her; it's in her mirror, where she can't avoid the strange, indelible, tattoo-like Mark on her neck - the only physical evidence that she even was taken.
Hope finally breaks away from her father, thinking that with a fresh start in Atlanta, with her mother, she can leave the past behind. But once there, her past and present come crashing together as she discovers her abduction was no accident; her Mark and a mysterious, handsome new friend finally offering up the clues to a fate so terrible Hope may wish she had stayed locked away - for good.
I need a cover design for the book, which will be published electronically and available on the kindle platform. Cover must be eye catching when reduced to thumbnail sized display on Amazon. For reference, the next two books in Trilogy are tentatively titled "The Key" and "The Gate."

Requirements
Must have
- Design must be in JPEG or TIFF format; Minimum 1000 pixels, recommended 2,500 pixels, on longest side. Height/width ratio of 1.6. RGB color mode. If use white background, please add medium gray border.
Design must incorporate title, the phrase "Book I of the Heaven's Gate Trilogy" and author's name. Please use "C.B. Day" as author.
Nice to have
- It may be interesting to incorporate some look of the Mark, or an actual picture of the tattoo on Hope's neck or somewhere elsze in the design. The Mark itself is made up of Greek key design and some ancient Aramaic text, which I attach here. Rough translation is "bearer of the key."
I was also thinking of having some sort of cutout look - perhaps in lower right hand corner - that would change with each book in the Trilogy (e.g., a key hole, a key, a gate or doorway opening...)
Should not have
- Would like it to avoid the very popular YA paranormal romance cover look of some young woman standing in a desolate place, looking about to be swept away in danger (!)
