Logo Design Brief

We need a Logo Design for a new children's book series about volleyball.
The name of the Series is "Volley Star", the target is 8+ and mainly for girls.
The logo should be girlish, should communicate immediately the idea of sport, energy, happiness, friendship, good and positive feelings.
The book tells the story of 6 friends who want to play volleyball and create a new team in their school.
The logo will appear on the top of book cover and should have a strong visibility.
The book cover will display the illustration that you can find attached, and our logo should be in armony with it. In the balance of the cover please consider that the name of the author and the title of the book of course will also appear, but you don't need to design it.
The logo will be used not only on the book cover but also for promotion, on contests, posters, web, so it should also stand alone and still be very recognisable.
