Book Cover Design Brief

The book title is:

Gazza's Guide to Practical Project Management

Subtitle:
Tips and advice on Getting it Done, even when other people think you can't!

Author name: Gary M Nelson, BSc, PMP

The book includes some articles from my blog, www.gazzascorner.com as well as new content. Feel free to read the blog for a sense of my writing style to reflect in the cover.

The book is written in a conversational style and incorporates stories to convey much of the information. All of the chapters are designed around the practical approach to doing various aspects of the project management role, without getting hung up on the specifics of a particular methodology.

The book is designed to be a useful guide to new project managers, and a well-needed break and refresher for experienced project managers.

The common thread of the book is about project management as a journey, and incorporates many travel metaphors - cars, planes, deserts, and scenic destinations.

I want the cover to be eye catching, a little serious but also fun - the cover should include a number of the travel elements and a Gantt chart (will attach picture) - perhaps "explorer" type, all laid out on a map with a small globe, compass, notebook and pen, the Gantt chart, small pocket umbrella (closed) and perhaps some scattered photos. Oh, and if it fits, a laptop or tablet. It might get cluttered but pehaps a small toy car (i.e. Matchbox/HotWheels) and/or airplane in the background/back edge - see how it goes.

Thanks!
Gary Nelson

08/07/2012 Update

I am thinking of a mostly white cover with an old fashioned suitcase (open), with the key objects laying in or sticking out of the suitcase - umbrella, compass, globe, laptop, project plan pages. Back cover mostly white with a few photos scattered around the edges. More photos uploaded and replaced original photos with higher resolution versions.

Final image needs to be suitable for 300dpi and my original photos were not (had been scaled).

Possibly a multiple-direction (picket) signpost standing at he left side of the suitcase, extending up towards the title, with project management terms such as "Scope" "Requirements" "Quality" "Change" "Planning" "Cost" "Project Kickoff" "Plan" etc.

Thanks Gary
