Illustration Design Brief

Brief:
I am looking to get a series of images done for a children’s storybook app. I need a set of 8 illustrations to tell a story. There is no set story or scene, so am open to inspiration. Some illustrations will be simple characters by themselves and others will be more complex with the background scene being more involved. In most cases I’m hoping the illustrations can be simple and generic enough to be used in different scenarios/stories i.e close up of character smiling or character running. The mix of generic and specific scenes will provide enough to tell many stories.

The character/theme for this set is 'Outcast geek girl'. I have other sets needing developed and they are on Design Crowd as separate listings because I am looking for different styles across the themes/sets. There are eight in total for now. Of course any illustrations must be created by you and have the ownership rights to sell to me.

The target age range is around 6–12 year old boys and girls, but I am happy with some variance.

Specifications:

The image size is 500px by 500px. Because this is to be used in an IOS app we need to support retina resolution graphics which are double the quality/size of this i.e. 1000px by 1000px, so it would need to be this size as well. If possible I would like to separate the foreground from the background in the source files (i.e. character from scene) to future proof the use of the images. Also having transparent borders of the images for seamless integration with the book page background (i.e. not a solid background colour).

The business end:

In terms of licensing, as mentioned these images are to be used inside my IOS app only, other than for any promotional purposes. The license or ownership of these images will need to allow me to charge for my app which includes the illustrations and to charge for the illustrations separately if desired. The images won’t be for resale outside of the app.

Summary:

I am looking for something special to wow people and engage and inspire them in the stories. I’m keen to see modern and old fashioned styles (mimicking traditional canvas illustrations), using depth and subtile details to bring alive the scenes and characters. I don’t wish to waste people’s time so there is no need to design all 8 images upfront until you are selected, 1 image of a character in location will suffice.
