Logo Design Brief

We are a small software development company looking for a logo to represent our new product, called ‘BootHawk’.

BootHawk is a PC boot and user logon analysis and reporting tool targeted at companies with a significant numbers of PCs to manage. Our software runs silently in the background, watching the machine boot and user logon process; the machine boot and our software watching it (like a bird of prey) is what lead to the name ‘BootHawk’. BootHawk can help IT departments fix slow boot and logon problem, thereby significantly increasing their company’s productivity.

We are very open-minded to creative ideas and are unsure how the logo can be best represented i.e. just clever use of graphics, a nicely rendered version of the hawk head image that we are currently using with some text or something completely different that uses stylised text and a hawk attribute in some way. We do NOT want to use an eagle image; most hawks have a shorter and more curved beak e.g. Harris hawk. The text needs to make it clear, in some way, that BootHawk represents Boot and Hawk as separate words; perhaps a clever use of case and/or colours?

At present our thought is to have some kind of hawk icon and the product name with the contrasting font +/- colour. Having a discrete hawk icon would allow us to brand future products we develop with the same icon; however, we are definitely open to any other creative approach.
