Magazine Design Brief

We need a magazine design for an Australian youth charity called Musicians Making A DIfference (MMAD). We engage young people through street culture music, dance and mentoring programs, and help them to turn their lives around. Our charity's vision is to see every young person have someone who believes in them and the opportunity to live their potential.

The design should have places for images of our young people during programs(we've only provided a few for you), room for quotes from young people and supporters etc, and each double spread could be a snapshot of a different program.

We will need a design template that will allow us to add all the contents for the magazine, including a contents page, report from our Chairman (1 page), letter from CEO (1 page), and following achievements of our programs including 1. MMAD Camps (2 x double spread, total 4 pages), 2. Expression Sessions (2 x double spread, total 4 pages) and 3. Mentoring (2 x double spread, total 4 pages). An audited financial report of 4 pages will be copied in after our program reports, and on the back of the magazine, we'll need space for all our supporter logos. I'd also like to include a short story or case-study about young people's transformation on each program page.

We need something that's got a bit of a street edge, to keep our youthful brand, but helps us to highlight our excellence as an innovative and cutting edge charity. The final design should be emotional, eye-catching, reflective of our creative spark, and inspiring. We currently have a brand that uses a fair bit of black & white with highlights of colour, however I dont want this to limit your creativity. We use a font called Octin Spraypaint Free for our logos and program names.

We would like to present our annual report as a magazine so that it is something that people will want to pick up and look at.

  We will give you a few images to use as a guide however we'd love to be able to play around with the images once we have a template (we'll add different ones and change pictures around to suit the program pages). We're providing these images so that you can get a feel for our culture and be inspired to put together the template, dont worry if you use the same photos more than once on the different pages to show as an example.

Nice to have

• We already have our charity logo, however we'd love to call this MMAD Mag, MMAD Magazine or Latest MMADness. We'd like it to replicate a real magazine, with colour and lots of interesting sections for information & stories, rather than a boring traditional annual report template.

Should not have

• We want this magazine to stand out, and we dont want a half-hearted charity design or a polished corporate style magazine.
  
  We want to remain bold and contemporary, and on the commercial side with a street edge - have lots of fun & thank you so much - we're very excited!
