I have never used a logo, always been branded using the header to my website: www.libraphotographic.co.uk

Yup it does but doesn't necessarily need to be featured.

Around 80% is outdoors however. I will be opening a studio later this year which will bring it to a 60-40 split. 

Can you describe what exactly are you looking for in this logo, do you want it to be text logo, text with a graphic element logo, ...etc please explain more.

Ok that's fine, but you must have seen some logos around that you like the look of. I'd suggest visiting logopond.com and have a look at what they've got on there, hopefully you'll find something you like the look/style/theme of and we can go from there.
