Logo Design Brief

We need a logo for a new University and State research collaborative in Washington State. The collaborative involves three partners but could expand to more. The core functions involve promoting research and community solutions to justice programming and policy, including arrest, court hearings, probation, detention, placement, and therapeutic services (e.g., counseling). The logo should feel formal, but evoke partnership. We don't want any obvious justice symbols like justice scales or prison bars. The focus of our collaborative is to emphasize person-centered solutions, the voice of the community and the integration of science into policy.

The collaborative involves two universities (University of Washington and Washington State University) and the state administrative office of the courts. We will be rolling existing projects to evaluate new programming, test policies, and provide data-infrastructure to courts under the center.

Must have

• A logo that looks well printed in color as well as black and white. Relatively simple - probably not any person-looking figures. Something that communicates innovation, new, bold. We are setting up something similar to these agencies:

Nice to have

• We probably want some kind of symbol/art figure, not necessarily just lettering. But would be okay looking at a logo that is just lettering.
