I am having much difficulty deciding if the soldier should be saluting the flag or those viewing the design... I have decided on a non specific military uniform so Army/Navy/Air Force are all included. I am taking this opportunity seriously - I have a stained glass window dedicated to the NZ Returned Soldiers Association, in the Auckland War Memorial Museum that I designed with my grandfather who fought in WW2.
