Graphic Design Brief
To create a logo that will speak to a development project in Tanzania for women. Located near Mt Kilimanjaro in Northern Tanzania, a Canadian woman started the project five years ago. It is not a registered charity but a grassroots project funded entirely by donations.
It now has 21 women who are trained in business skills, then get support and access to lending capital for the business of their choices. The women typically build small businesses from home, chicken, pig, goat, etc. or a market stall for vegetables, corn, etc. , The African women have an active part in the design of the program, setting interest rates giving feedback, deciding on expansion or changes. They come as a group and remain in that small group under 10 women for training and support. The funding comes from donors giving small amounts directly, buying African products, speaking engagements.
The donors love the grassroots story, the high level of accountability, the focus on African women who are more and more in the news. It has a high level accountability for the donation made as it is small efficient project that is resulting in some of the world's poorest families to have a permanent or sustainable life change.
It is not pure micro finance as the interest generated from the loans can't cover the cost of the admin. It is a supported microfinance model.
The Canadian founder thinks she connects her donors to the reality and success of the life of modern day Africa thus the concept of the Bridge to Africa. She goes over with donations (cash and items to sell in the markets to raise money), comes back with stories and crafts to sell to support the project. She says she brings the love of all the donors with her so the women can have a better life.
Ideally, the design will feature the national colours of Tanzania, not focus on the Masaai culture or safari animals which is the tourist side of the country. The design would communicate connection, care, compassion, a more feminine or softer side of humans with more than one person/human figure to show the connection. The logo will primarily be used electronically on social media, FB, email newsletter, etc. Checkout Facebook: Bridge to Africa Project for photos and details.
